What is IRC?

IRC = Internet Relay Chat

What is Channel?

A public space where people can join and talk to each other, if user can not join a channel its mean he/she got BANNED.
Example: #Cambodia, #lovefm, #services.

Note: some channel required you to identify nickname to join.

What is Server?

A computer run 24/7, IRC Server contains many channels.
example: irc.channelcambodia.com

What is Network?

Many servers links together create a network.
uIRC Network links server: irc.channelcambodia.com - cambodia.uirc.net

There are many IRC Network around the world, some big (10,000,000 people) , some very small (10 to 20 people).

What is Cambodia chat Network?

Yes we are uIRC Network or Channel Cambodia created 7 years ago, by Khmer in Phnom Penh and hope it will be the only and safe place for Khmer people. http://www.uirc.net http://www.channelcambodia.com

What is chat client?

Chat Client is a software use to chat in chat server. most popular one is mIRC, user can also chat from website using Java at www.channelcambodia.com. some user use their Mobile with uIRC Chat client to chat.

There are many software to chat we call them IRC Client, each irc client is allow user to connect to a server to chat, our chat server is irc.uirc.net.

What is command?

Command use to tell server to do something, command always start with /  we type command on the text box.
The command /nick dara  as you see in the left hand image is to tell server to change your nickname to dara you need to type this command inside the textbox and press Enter to send command to server.

There are many other useful command on IRC such as:

• /LIST to show all chat channel exist on the network.
• /MAP to see how many server are there in the network.
• /HELPOP <text> replace the <text> with what u want for example "/helpop help" to send an alert channel to server operator to help you.
• /JOIN #<channel> replace <channel> to your channel name for example: "/join #cambodia" to join channel cambodia.
• /NICK <nickname>  use to change your nickname to new nickname, however some nick we can not use, since some are registered to another person already.

How to identify nickname?

After registering a nickname you will have your nickname and password, every time you connect to chat server type this following command.

/NS SIDENTIFY <yournickname> <yourpassword>
